Friends of Kalamazoo Public Library
Serving Kalamazoo Since 1959

The Friends of the Kalamazoo Public Library is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the library as an essential institution in our community.
With sales of gently used books from the Friends Bookstore, membership dues, and gifts, the group provides ongoing support to many Kalamazoo Public Library outreach programs and services. It also encourages literacy and reading within the community by making affordable quality reading materials available to everyone.
The Friends is governed by an elected board with two part-time employees and more than 150 dues-paying members. We are one of more than 2,000 Friends of the Library groups nationwide.
In 2020, Friends of the Kalamazoo Public Library celebrated its 60th anniversary. For more than six decades, the Friends have encouraged reading and literacy by underwriting library-sponsored reading outreach programs and providing a year-round source of affordable reading through the Friends Bookstore.
Friends encourages literacy while providing ongoing support to many Kalamazoo Public Library programs and services. Support your library and your community.
Friends Bookstore offers thousands of items, including children’s books, fiction (mysteries, thrillers, sci-fi, romance), nonfiction (cookbooks, history, science & nature, travel, crafts), large print, CDs and DVDs, audiobooks, jigsaw puzzles, unique sets, collectibles, and more! We are located inside the Central Library on the lower level. Many of the books are 50¢ – $3.00!
