Friends of Kalamazoo Public Library
Serving Kalamazoo Since 1959

The Friends of the Kalamazoo Public Library is an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the library as an essential institution in our community.
With sales of gently used books from the Friends Bookstore, membership dues, and gifts, the group provides ongoing support to many Kalamazoo Public Library outreach programs and services. It also encourages literacy and reading within the community by making affordable quality reading materials available to everyone.
The Friends is governed by an elected board with two part-time employees and more than 150 dues-paying members. We are one of more than 2,000 Friends of the Library groups nationwide.
In 2019, Friends of the Kalamazoo Public Library celebrates its 60th anniversary. For six decades, the Friends of Kalamazoo Public Library have encouraged reading and literacy by underwriting library sponsored reading outreach programs and by operating the Friends Bookstore year-round as a source of affordable reading for everyone.
