Friends Board of Directors

Pictured are the Friends Board.

The Friends of Kalamazoo Public Library is a Michigan nonprofit corporation governed by an elected board with two part-time employees and more than 150 dues-paying members. We are one of more than 2,000 Friends of the Library groups nationwide.

The Friends board consists of not fewer than nine nor more than fifteen Directors. Directors are elected to three-year terms by membership vote at the Friends annual meeting held each spring. Newly elected Directors take office immediately.

The board also includes three non-voting members: the Kalamazoo Public Library Director, the Friends Bookstore Manager, and the Friends Office Manager.

Officers

Officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer) are elected from and by the board for two-year terms. Officers may be reelected for additional terms.

Governing Documents

The decisions and actions of the Friends are guided by its Bylaws and Policies.  A quorum, consisting of a majority of the Directors, is needed to conduct board business.

Meetings

Friends members and the general public may attend open-session board meetings. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month in the Central Library Board Room, 315 S. Rose Street. Meetings begin at 3:00 pm.

Time is set aside early at each meeting for public comments about the mission, policies, or practices of the Friends. Each speaker is limited to five minutes.
