KPL congratulates 2023 Amanda Green Scholarship Fund Winner Yasmeen Anis Shah who graduated with her Masters in Library and Information Science degree from the University of South Florida!

I cannot thank you all enough for your kindness and encouragement as I worked through my classes,” said Yasmeen. “The Amanda Green Scholarship paved the way for my success. Taking away the financial struggle associated with grad school, allowed me the opportunity to focus on my classwork and graduate with a 4.0 GPA! Not only was the Amanda Green Scholarship truly life-changing, but I am also extremely grateful for the support of everyone at KPL. I reached out to several reference librarians and youth services librarians for help on assignments, and I was always greeted with such kindness and support. Thank you for helping me achieve this dream so that I can work to instill the love and joy for reading to everyone I will work with. The words ‘thank you’ cannot fully describe the gratitude I feel for this gift.”

The Amanda Green Scholarship, named after a former library assistant in Teen Services at KPL, promotes the library profession to people of color. By providing monetary assistance to individuals seeking a master’s degree from an accredited library science program, KPL hopes to promote the training and hiring of more librarians of color in Kalamazoo and other communities. Donations to the fund are welcome.

Congratulations Yasmeen! We wish you well in your librarian career!
