This policy is intended to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 and Protected Health Information (PHI) regulations, which requires Employer Sponsored Health Plans to obtain authorization before disclosing Protected Health Information (PHI) to other parties. Protected Health Information, whether spoken, written or in electronic form is confidential. Kalamazoo Public Library is committed to maintaining the privacy and security of its employees’ (and family members’) protected health information and has implemented procedures regarding the use and disclosure of PHI. This policy may be amended to ensure compliance with HIPAA and other applicable Federal and state laws.
