CloudLibrary eBooks & eAudiobooks are Moving to Hoopla Digital

Effective Wednesday, April 21st

On Wednesday, April 21st KPL’s cloudLibrary titles will begin transferring to the hoopla digital platform. This move will necessitate the current cloudLibrary titles to be unavailable from KPL while they are transferred and configured in hoopla. The titles will be available on the hoopla platform beginning May 5th.

Important! If you currently have titles on hold in the cloudLibrary, you will need to place a new hold on the title in hoopla when those titles are made available on May 5th. Unfortunately, the holds will not get transferred with the titles. We apologize for any inconvenience this move causes.

Hoopla Flex FAQ

Where did cloudLibrary go?
KPL will no longer offer the cloudLibrary platform, but all of the titles that we offered in cloudLibrary will move to the hoopla platform on May 5th, 2021. In order to make that transition, cloudLibrary access was ended on April 21, 2021. Any cloudLibrary titles currently checked out will be available for the entire loan period.

How do I sign up for Hoopla?
Signing up is an easy process!

  1. Download the app or go to HooplaDigital.com.
  2. Create an account and log in with your KPL library card information.
  3. Borrow and enjoy!

Will this affect how many Hoopla borrows I can have?
KPL patrons will continue to get 15 Hoopla (Instant) borrows per month but will now get 10 additional Hoopla (Flex) borrows. KPL patrons will also get up to 10 holds on those Hoopla Flex titles.

What is the difference between Hoopla Instant and Hoopla Flex?
If you are familiar with the Hoopla service to this point, that is essentially Hoopla Instant (titles are available at any time and without the need to place holds for popular items). Hoopla Flex will add popular titles that are more like traditional print titles in that they can only be borrowed by one person at a time. This requires these titles to be placed on hold if they are borrowed by another patron at the moment.

How do I tell the difference between Hoopla Instant and Hoopla Flex?
Beginning May 5th, 2021, Hoopla Flex titles will begin to be added to the KPL Hoopla platform. You will distinguish between the two by an icon in the upper left-hand side of the title’s cover image (also, the Hoopla Instant titles will never have a “HOLD” button since they are always available).

What devices does Hoopla support?
Hoopla works with most devices and non-dedicated eReaders. For a full list, visit Hoopla’s FAQ page.

Does Hoopla work with my Kindle?
Unfortunately, no. However, KPL’s other ebook/eaudiobook platform, Libby (OverDrive), does support the proprietary Kindle format.

Is Hoopla replacing Libby?
No! KPL will continue to offer Libby as an ebook/eaudiobook platform.

How does Hoopla handle my privacy?
Your account information as well as your borrowing history is private. No one can access what titles you have borrowed but you. However, Hoopla is a separate entity from KPL and has its own privacy policy. You can see that policy in full here: Hoopla’s privacy policy.
