Summary
Hoping to develop the most powerful war machine in history, the Ahab-like Admiral Gillette has created the ultimate weapon--MEAD. MEAD (Mobile Extrasensory Autonomous Deceptor) is an A.I. spaceship symbiotically linked to its Captain (Friz). Together they possess the ability to project illusions so convincing that they cannot be distinguished from reality--Friz imagines the illusions and MEAD projects them. But an unexpected programming error has instilled MEAD with pacifist tendencies, thwarting Gillette's plans and rendering the "Deceptor" useless for military purposes. Scheduled for "decommission," Friz and MEAD flee and are pursued across the solar system by bounty hunters and the Admiral with a personal vendetta.
