Summary
One sweltering summer in New York City, 13-year-old Mister's hard-living mother is apprehended by the police, leaving him and nine-year-old Pete to survive on their own while dodging child protective services, the cops and the gangs of the Brooklyn projects. But through fearlessness of youth and sheer force of will, the two forge a bond strong enough to face down the world--and claim their place in it.
