Summary

A gruff, up-through-the-ranks Scottish officer must relinquish his peacetime regiment to an aristocratic colonel. The young successor strives to win his troops' respect while the old Scot wages a cruel campaign to discredit him. Ultimately, their savage personal war leads to tragedy.
