Tsugaru-jamisen with Sato Michiyoshi
An entertaining and educational concert with shamisen virtuoso Sato Michiyoshi. Sato is an award-winning performer of Tsugaru-jamisen, a dynamic style of music played on a three-stringed Japanese instrument called a shamisen, which dates to the early 19th century. Sato’s performance includes everything from traditional folk songs to modern compositions, which exemplify the struggle between his own creativity and the legacy of his father Michihiro Sato, considered a “shamisen master,” one of the most beloved Tsugaru-jamisen artists in history.
Recorded 03/10/2018
