Classified: Who in the World is Merze Tate?
Author and Publisher Sonya Bernard-Hollins
Kalamazoo author and publisher Sonya Bernard-Hollins discusses her latest book about Merze Tate (1905-1996), grandchild of the first Negro settlers in Mecosta County, and a graduate of Western State Teacher’s College (later Western Michigan University) with the school’s highest academic record at that time. Using never-before-published FBI documents that sought Tate’s loyalty to the United States, Sonya is on a mission to not only bring Tate’s life and legacy to the world but use Tate’s story to inspire others to live a life without limits.
