Celebrate 125 Years of "Lift Every Voice and Sing"!
Kalamazoo Public Library, the Helen L. Fox Gospel Music Center, and the SW Michigan Chapter of the NAACP lead a powerful celebration of Sing a Song: How Lift Every Voice and Sing Inspired Generations by Kelly Starling Lyons. This special event honors the legacy of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” from its origins as a poem by NAACP leader James Weldon Johnson in 1900 to its enduring role as a Civil Rights anthem. Through storytelling and music, we reflect on its impact across generations.
