A History of the Washington Square Branch Library - With Keith Howard

A History of the Washington Square Branch Library with Keith Howard

As part of the library’s 150th-anniversary celebration, KPL’s Keith Howard takes a close look at the origins of the Washington Square Branch Library and its 113-year history. From its inception in the basement of the old Portage Street School (later Washington Junior High) to its current home built in 1927, the Washington Square Branch Library – Kalamazoo’s first-ever branch library – has since grown to become an integral part of the Edison Neighborhood and the KPL system. This recording covers its architecture and explores the origins of the Edison Neighborhood and the branch through historical photos and patrons’ heartwarming stories.
