Summary
"Water From Cactus is the story and experiences of a black man's journey to adulthood set against the backdrop of modern America. The book centers around Trevon Hobson's life starting with his dangerous and turbulent childhood. Born to an underage mother, Trevon's life would plunge into darkness with his mother's descent into addiction during the 1980's crack epidemic. Trevon would be pitted against extreme poverty, sexual abuse, and a never-ending cycle of being evicted. Finding himself in a place where hope was no longer a reality, Trevon slowly drifted down all the wrong roads. Poor choices and raising himself, took the young man close to the edge, where just beyond the field of vision, destruction was waiting patiently for him. As the end of the line waited for Trevon, his life would be saved by music and his grandmother's love. After learning that the dead time in jail was not the way to a better life, he refocused all his energies into the music and set out on a journey which is still unfolding today. Trevon became the man known as Skitzo Michigan and his adventures began. This book chronicles the voyage from humble beginnings in Kalamazoo to performing at many music festivals such as the Gathering of the Juggalos and Spark in the Park . Water From Cactus takes the reader on this journey and is written in such a way that it feels like the reader is in the room for the conversation. Underground fans are treated to a number of special appearances in the book including interviews with Project Born, SCUM from the LSP Family, Lyte, and Mastamind. While simultaneously grinding in the Underground, Skitzo never stopped growing and evolving, often times opting for topics in his music that others are afraid to touch, or just won't go. The reader is transported to the front lines of social movements in America, while Skitzo takes to the streets for justice. Whether it's combating police brutality or bringing awareness to the water catastrophes in Benton Harbor and Flint Michigan, Skitzo is there fighting for the survival and betterment of his people."--Goodreads.
