Summary

"With the information I found on this Elijah Root who was a pioneer in Newton Township, Calhoun County, Michigan, I could not find a direct relationship with the Elijah Root Junior that is the pioneer that settled about 1833 early in Portage Township in Michigan. However, both men did come from families that were living in the State of Massachusetts. Many of the Root families did in fact emigrate from Europe to Connecticut and Massachusetts colonies, then moving into American's North West Territory as it developed"--author's summation, page 6.
