"This writing about County Government begins long ago when ice sheets covered the majority of what is now the State of Michigan and how the land was populated and how the structures of local government evolved in today's State of Michigan. Specifically, the history leads to the manner in which today's County's Administrative Structure evolved under the many Boards of Supervisors since the October 16, 1937 dedication of the County Building on West Michigan Avenue; and by the Boards of Commisssioners since January 1, 1969 (the structure goes back form 1937 to statehood). It is important to understand the trail--the pathway--the history of how 576 square miles came to be Kalamazoo County. You will see and read one version that is cited from the writing, "Corporation Hall," from the Clarence L. Miller Family History Room of the Kalamazoo Public Library. The other, Appendix I, originates from the 1967 Courthouse Review. Its February addition featured Tony Stamm, 26-year Veteran Kalamazoo County Clerk. Please refer to the Appendix for his History of Kalamazoo County.
