Summary
On Memorial Day, 1993, 13-year-old Kyle convinces his grandfather, Bud, to share the heroic and sometimes grueling stories of his days as a soldier in WWII. Then--tying past to present--a grown-up Kyle finds the same sorts of victories and scars on the battlefield in modern day Iraq.
