Summary

Known as the "Paper City," Parchment was the company town that Kalamazoo Vegetable Parchment Company founder Jacob Kindleberger founded for his employees. During KVP's nearly 80 years in operation, the company made paper and printed numerous products out of parchment paper -- kitchen parchment, paper packaging, paper plates and cups, garbage paper and wax-lined maps for aviators in the war. While the mill changed ownership over the years, the core employees remained the same through KVP-Sutherland, Brown Co., James River Corp. and finally Crown Vantage Paper Co. The mill shut down in 2000 because of changes in the way paper was produced. This video provides a history of the company over the years.
