Summary

This is a reenactment of the August 1856 rally in Kalamazoo in support of Republican presidential candidate John C. Fremont. Abraham Lincoln was asked to be one of the speakers, and he used that opportunity to say some words about slavery and its impact on the nation. This brings to life a very exciting but troubled time in our nation's history. It includes various Kalamazoo residents in period dress, with musical accompaniment featuring songs of the time.
