Breaking the Cycle of Cynicism for More Hopeful Days

Summary

Discover how cynicism harms your career and happiness. Learn to remove the “mud-colored glasses” to see the world more accurately and bring out the best in yourself and others.

Cynicism is costing us more opportunities–and money–than we realize. In this course, Dr. Jamil Zaki discusses the science behind cynicism’s surprising impact on our personal and professional lives. Jamil makes an evidence-based case for “hopeful skepticism.” Dr. Jamil Zaki is the Director of the Stanford Social Neuroscience Lab, where he specializes in the study of empathy and kindness. He’s also a “recovering cynic” and author of Hope for Cynics: The Surprising Science of Human Goodness. Jamil opens with a fascinating experiment that reveals how we underestimate others’ goodness. He reveals how cynicism diminishes performance and encourages dishonest behavior. Discover how embracing hope yields greater energy, collaboration, and creativity. Learn how to harness hope with simple practices like savoring goodness, questioning your gut, and trusting loudly. This course was created by Pete Mockaitis of How to Be Awesome at Your Job. We are pleased to offer this training in our library.
