Fiume o Morte!
Summary
In 1919, the Italian poet, dandy and preacher of war Gabriele D’Annunzio occupied the city of Fiume. The citizens of Fiume, today called Rijeka, retell the bizarre story about the 16-month occupation of their city in a brutally factual, yet defiantly punk cinematic journey. Meticulously researched, FIUME O MORTE! brilliantly blends archival footage and photography with a rotating cast of informal re-enactors, drawing the past into the present. It also captures the essential puffery and absurdity of the fascist project at a time when authoritarianism is on the rise around the world.
