Night and Day

Summary

Seong-nam (Kim Young-ho) is in trouble. An artist who doesn’t seem to make any actual art, he finds himself exiled to Paris in order to escape arrest in Korea. He spends most of his days wandering aimlessly, stumbling into trysts with three women: his ex-girlfriend Jang Min-seon (Kim Yoo-jin), art student Lee Yoo-jeong (Park Eun-hye) and her roommate Jo Hyeon-joo (Seo Min-jeong). His nights consist of long distance calls to his concerned wife. Between politically-charged arm wrestling competitions and toe-sucking wet dreams, Seong-nam struggles to ever get what he wants, caught between waking dreams and reality. He lashes out harder and harder as the world rejects him more and more.In his first digital feature, Hong Sang-soo paints a caustic portrait of masculinity, taking advantage of the format's new freedoms in his longest film to date. It is simultaneously one of Hong’s funniest and most disturbing films.
