Summary

For 54 years, Babe's and Ricky's Inn run by "Mama" Laura has harbored nothing but the greatest live blues music in Los Angeles and across the country. The extraordinary "Mama" has been a major influence on the lives of all musicians who pass through her club. The film focuses on Laura Mae Gross, now 89. In 1957, after her husband was killed in a robbery she started a hotdog stand and later, due to her love for blues music, opened a blues club in Central Avenue called Babe's and Ricky's Inn, named after her nephew Babe and her son Ricky. Her blues club became a unique breeding ground for new and upcoming talent, as well as a host of contemporary classic blues musicians, such as BB King, Eric Clapton, John Lee Hooker and Albert King. Babe's and Ricky's Inn the documentary also reveals the daily struggles of "Mama" Laura's musicians such as Ray Bailey, Keb' Mo, Guitar Shorty, Zac Harmon, Barbara Morrison, Sherry Pruitt, and Dennis Jones, as their music develops and their careers unfold. As the film will show, the features players from all different ethnicities and backgrounds, all connected through one common, uncompromising passion - playing the blues.
