Summary

The island of Jamaica is divided into 14 parishes, each with its own capital town. These parishes are further grouped into three historic counties. Cornwall, Middlesex and Surry. The island features diverse landscapes, from coastal areas with beautiful beaches to mountainous regions and lush rainforests, and there are many caves and rivers throughout the island. A few historical sites are: Port Royal, a former pirate city with preserved historical ruins; Rose Hall Great House, a historic plantation with a legendary past; Seville Heritage Park, a site with remnants of Taino, Spanish, and British settlements; Fort Charles, a very old fort that was built to protect Port Royal; and Accompong Town; a town established by the Maroons, who fought for independence.
