The majority of the original officers and men had been killed or wounded, and the new officers and soldiers were not suitable instructors for the men. The majority of the officers of the Oussourian division had been in Admiral Koltchak's army and met again under the command of Ataman Semenov and General Ungern. #4 In Russia, the pretense of stern authority was reduced to a matter of public speaking matches and political debates.
