Alain-Fournier, the pseudonym of Henri-Alban Fournier, had a brief but significant literary career as the author of Le Grand Meaulnes (1913), which today is considered a classic of French literature. Killed during the First World War as an army lieutenant at the age of just twenty-seven, most of his writing was published posthumously, including his poems, essays, letters, and the notes on his second novel Colombe Blanchet which remained unfinished due to his untimely death.
