Party in the Park

Celebrate Early Childhood Literacy

29th Annual Celebration
Thank you for coming!

Thank you all for coming to the park and taking part in one of the most fun-filled storytimes in Kalamazoo. Many preschool children running around enjoying stories told by  costumed characters, community readers. If you did not get a chance to attend, enjoy a few stories below. See you next year.

Kalamazoo Public Library is pleased to feature a special online Party in the Park 2026 Storytime with Dionna Roberts, Principal of Lincoln International Studies School, and Dr. Darrin Slade, Superintendent of Kalamazoo Public Schools. Both are dedicated champions for literacy and student success in Kalamazoo.

Together, they bring to life two books by award-winning author Derrick Barnes, who will visit Kalamazoo this fall for the library’s Youth Literature Seminar.

Raising Community Awareness

Since 1998, Ready to Read has celebrated national Stand for Children Day with a special story hour to focus community attention on the importance of sharing books with young children.

Kalamazoo County preschoolers, their parents, teachers, and childcare providers are invited to Bronson Park to hear stories read by community leaders and costumed storybook characters.

Each child receives healthy snacks and juice and a gift book courtesy of Kalamazoo Public Library.
