Jackson Prison

There are so many different ways to look at Michigan history. A couple of recent books on the history of Jackson Prison have had me examining this aspect of it - one that I hadn’t given much thought to before. My knowledge of the prison was pitifully small and until I discovered these books, I didn’t even realize that there have been multiple prisons in Jackson over the years. Together the books, Jackson: The Rise and Fall of the World’s Largest Walled Prison and Jacktown: History and Hard Times at Michigan’s First State Prison, provide a close look at these institutions over the years....
