Kalamazoo: Then and Now

This photo was taken approximately 10 years after the construction of St. Augustine's Cathedral. Dedicated in 1951, the church at 542 W. Michigan Avenue was officially awarded cathedral status in 1971.

The attached elementary school was completed in 1964. The Cathedral was rededicated in 1981 following repairs made necessary by the 1980 tornado that struck downtown Kalamazoo. St. Augustine's Cathedral underwent renovation in 1989, and was dedicated on the eighteenth anniversary of the creation of the Kalamazoo Diocese (21 July 1989).
