We Appreciate Your Suggestions

Each year we add hundreds of items to our collection from your suggestions. Decisions are made using our board-approved Materials Selection Policy.

The Materials Selection Policy guides the addition of materials for the collection. Each item must meet the needs of the overall collection. Number of similar titles, intended audience, cost, date written or published, etc., are all considered. If you are not a Kalamazoo Public Library District resident, we encourage you to make suggestions at your home library.

If we decide to add your suggestion to our collection we will automatically place a hold for you on the item to be picked up at your preferred location.

If we decide not to add your suggestion to our collection we will notify you by email if we have your email on file.

Please limit your requests to no more than five per month.

Kalamazoo Public Library district residents may also borrow materials easily through MeLCat, the Michigan Electronic Library Catalog. This statewide library catalog and materials sharing system now includes the collections of over 170 Michigan libraries. This service is especially helpful for older and more specialized titles. It’s easy!
