Mental Health Through a Disability Lens
Wed, November 13 @ 10:00 am–11:45 am
Registration Required
Mental health is often viewed as separate from disability, but examining it through the lens of disability provides valuable and often overlooked insights. In this workshop, we will:
- Learn About Mental Health from a Disability Perspective: We will explore the interconnectedness of mental health and disability, understanding how mental health conditions can be viewed as a form of disability.
- Explore the Impact of Ableism on Mental Health: We will discuss how ableism affects individuals with mental health disabilities, contributing to stigma, marginalization, and inadequate support.
- Examine Current Mental Health Practices: We will critically analyze how current mental health practices may inadvertently oppress people, particularly those with mental health disabilities, by failing to recognize their unique needs and rights.
- Develop Inclusive and Empowering Practices: The workshop will also focus on ways to create more inclusive and empowering approaches to mental health care, emphasizing respect, dignity, and the full inclusion of people with mental health disabilities in society.
This event will take place on Zoom, and it includes 15 minutes availability to connect with facilitators after the training session. ONEplace will send you a link prior to the event.
