Summary

During World War II, Stroszek, a wounded German soldier, is sent to recuperate on the remote Greek island of Kos where he meets and marries a Greek nurse. Along with two other soldiers recovering from minor wounds, Stroszek is billeted in a decaying fortress where there's very little to do other than guard a munitions depot. The men become increasingly stir crazy in their uneventful new assignment and Stroszek eventually goes mad, drives the others from the fortress, and threatens the city with blowing up the depot.
