Summary
Flora is a circus elephant who can no longer perform her tricks. Fourteen-year-old Dawn considers Flora her best friend, since they grew up together in the circus which her father, Henry, owns. The cost of keeping the elephant is too high for Henry, and he is left with no other choice but to put her down. The night before she's scheduled to be euthanized, Dawn sneaks Flora from the circus, heading for an elephant preserve three hundred miles away. All that stands between them and the safety of the reserve is miles of woods, one raging river, two elephant hunters, and the fear of not making it.
