Summary

As fascist troops descend on Paris, German refugee Georg flees to Marseilles, where he assumes the identity of a dead writer and obtains a transit visa for passage to North America. Awaiting his escape in a make-shift emigre community, Georg's life intertwines with those of a young refugee and his widowed mother, and a lovely, mysterious woman in search of her own missing husband, causing Georg to imagine new beginnings. TRANSIT shifts the story to an indeterminate present, blurring history to create an urgent and timeless exploration of the plight of displaced peoples around the world.
