Summary
The poignant true story of future Pippi Longstocking author Astrid Lindgren, Becoming Astrid follows teenage Astrid as she confronts a restrictive society and an unexpected pregnancy. A budding storyteller eager to break free from her loving but strict religious family in rural Sweden, Astrid takes a job at a local newspaper where she begins to find her voice and quickly attracts the attention of its married editor. When she becomes pregnant, Astrid embarks for Denmark to give birth to a son, whom she reluctantly entrusts to a foster mother, Marie. When Marie falls ill, Astrid takes custody of the boy, using her vibrant imagination and storytelling flair to be the mother her child needs and become the author who would be the spiritual mother to generations of children.
