Summary

Thérèse is married to her cousin Camille, a spoiled mama's boy unlikely to grow out of it, as Mama lives with them, pampering Camille and bullying Thérèse. His childhood friend Laurent, upon meeting Thérèse, falls in love almost instantly. This leads to a torrid affair, which spirals out of control into murder. A chance witness blackmails the lovers, and Mama--paralyzed by a stroke upon learning of Camille's death--suspects the truth. The witness is killed while crossing the street in front of a speeding truck. However, he has ordered his maid to mail a letter if he does not return, and the lovers are relentlessly pursued by their fate.
