First, a mysterious convict bullies Finn into saving his life. Next, Finn is summoned to an overgrown Gothic palazzo where Nora Dinsmoor lives in the past, attended by beautiful blonde Estella, who will haunt him through the rest of the story. Last, there is secret benefactor whose munificence allows him to work toward his dream of success, and to win Estella.
