Summary

Betty is a best selling novelist who has invented her name to escape a troubled past made worse by her emotionally unstable and violent mother. When her young son is killed in an accident, Betty is so devastated that she barely notices when her deranged mother brings her a "replacement", a boy she kidnapped off the street. At first, Betty is cold towards him, but soon she decides she wants to keep her new "son" and becomes an unwilling accomplice in a criminal act. The plot thickens with the entrance of the boy's sexually promiscuous mother and her unsavory circle of friends. As the story builds to its dramatic climax, all of these worlds collide with an unpredictable yet life-affirming force.
