It was supposed to be just another exchange trip. He thought life would be easy, but experienced all the difficulties and hardship of an immigrant in a foreign country. All in the space of six months. The mucking about, which outdid much of his small victories, is narrated with very personal, razor-sharp wit and the desperation of a 21-year-old man, alone, 13 hours from any known person, who resorted to words to forget the problems of a reality he was literally forced to live one day at a time.
