Summary

The Going In-House Guidebook highlights the major factors that any professional will want to consider when evaluating a particular in-house opportunity. I've organized the book so that you'll easily find exactly what you need, without being bogged down by a lot of irrelevant information. The topics are pertinent for professionals in all disciplines, including doctors, lawyers, accountants, engineers, and consultants. For the most part, corporations are not inherently good or bad, and the same can be said for employment positions; what is true, however, is that a particular position at a particular corporation will be a perfect fit for one professional-and torture for another, equally talented professional. This concise guide is intended to assist professionals with the following: • Identifying the information they will need to make a well-informed decision about a particular position, and • Avoiding being surprised by aspects of a position after they have already started work. Each chapter can be used on a stand-alone basis. For example, if you're a lawyer who specializes in executive compensation, you might skip Chapter Five, which covers compensation. On the other hand, if you've held many in-house jobs in the past and just want to make sure you haven't missed anything in negotiating a current offer, you may need to read only Chapter Five. Each chapter includes a checklist highlighting key action items that you'll find useful in evaluating the issues covered in that chapter.
