“...at the library, families with young children are welcome.”

You might expect writers like Linda Mah and Bill Wood, both reporters for the Kalamazoo Gazette, to raise readers of their daughters Ava and Lena. But there was another reason the twins were introduced to the library at an early age. “When you’re a parent with young children in tow, you’re not really welcome in a lot of places,” Mah says. “But at the library, families with young children are welcome.”

You may find the girls, now nine years old, and their parents at any branch. “We go to Powell because they have a great video collection of new movies. The Central Library has great classic movies. We go to Eastwood or Oshtemo when they have interesting programs. We go to Washington Square when we’re headed to the farmers market,” says Mah. “Each location has a different atmosphere and they’re all fun places to hang out.”
