Your Story: Kathe and Dale Burnham

“The staff at the library is a great place to start.”

PlumCrazzy owners Dale and Kathe Burnham did their homework before opening their popular ice cream parlor. That included attending a three-hour small business resource class at the Central Library. “There is a lot you need to know, from working with the health department to getting a building inspection,” says Dale, who left a career in manufacturing to become his own boss. He and Kathe, who owned a day care and was active with the Girl Scouts before launching their venture, wanted a business that would keep them involved with the community and would enable them to work together. The library’s small business class helped them with the research they needed to ensure success. “Just about any information you might need to find is out there, it just requires a little legwork and asking lots of questions,” says Dale. “The staff at the library is a great place to start.”
