Movies that Started Out as Books

How many of you realize that there are a lot of movies that started out as books? For example the new Avengers movie is based on the comic book series with the same name. Remember the Twilight movies…books! Remember the Harry Potter movies….books!

So why not stop down in teens and check out a good book and go over to the AV area and check out the movie also. You can even have a movie/book party with popcorn and discuss which you liked best. Did the movie follow the book? Did they leave any parts out? You may even want to think about how you would make a movie from your favorite book.

Chillin’ with Audiobooks!

Now that May is here and spring is in the air; your mind starts to ponder on times of fun and chillin. Instead of reading a great book, why not listen to one.

We have a great selection in our teen area for your choosing. Put the book audio CD in, sit on the porch, have a nice cool drink of lemonade, a side of chips and listen to a great teen book!

Now that’s chillin!

National Poetry Month

April is “National Poetry Month” as first designated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996. The goal is to celebrate poetry and its place in American culture.

Are you a poet? Why not take some time this month and read some poetry or better yet write some. If you create something you feel is great then share it with your friends. If you feel it is really great then print it and frame it and put it on display.

Check out our display and get some inspiration.

Judge a book by its cover!

Have you heard the saying, “don’t judge a book by its cover?” As I was checking in some new books today I was very intrigued by the covers. When it comes to books in Teens the covers really jump out at you. How many of you have actually run to pick up a book to read that had a blank cover on it? That’s what I thought; no one!

Feel free to come to the Teen area and “judge a book by its cover!”

LOOK OUT! (Submit Your Films)

So there we were just hanging around in the Teen Area today, minding our own business, when out of nowhere this happened:

Too bad you weren't there... you could have filmed it and entered it into the Teen Filmmaker Festival! Good thing there's still FIVE MORE DAYS to submit your own films...

Make Your Way Downtown

OK …you’re back to school and your break is over. Now it’s time to focus on all the winter fun that is ahead! Where you say? At the KPL Teen Services of course! Come on down and see our, I mean, YOUR new space. It is colorful and bright with twelve windows and even a door!

Some of you got the memo, it was on and popping in Teens this afternoon. If you haven’t been down to check us out then “make your way downtown” to the library.

Looking for something to read?

Looking for something to read? Come down to Teens and check out our NEW books. We’ve set up a display just to showcase some of our new arrivals. We’ve had quite a few new books come in recently; new color, new furniture, new wall, NEW books!

Even though the snow hasn’t arrived yet you can still get in the mood by checking out some of our “snow” book in our glass display case; every title has the word snow in it.

“Let it snow, let it snow.”

Great progress in the Teen area!

We are making great progress in the Teen area updates. As you can see by the photo the wall has gone up. We now have ten windows within our wall space. Our doors and computers will be functioning soon! How exciting is our new space going to be… I think it is going to be awesome!

Come on down and check it out and share your opinions with our staff (about how much you just love the new TEEN space). We are all geeked about the activities we will be having in our new colorized teen area. Make sure you check out the great teen events that are coming up this month and set aside some time during your winter/holiday break to attend them. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

A Brighter, More Colorful Teen Area

teenareaPaint_598

In preparation for the (dun-dun-duuuuuunnnn!) new wall that's going up in early December, we're trying out some new paint colors around the Teen Area. The pillars by the entrance have been painted to match the new furniture, there's some blue along the walls, and several pillars have been painted an electric greenish-yellow color. Stop by and tell us what you think!
