My name is Heidi Turchan and I live in Portage with my husband, Karl, and our three children, Parker (9), Karly (7) and Carson (5). I grew up in South Haven, am a WMU graduate and have worked at the Specialized Language Development Center for 14 years; presently as the Director of Training. Some of my favorite activities are spending time with my family, reading, scrapbooking, sitting on the beach (with a good book) and cooking.
I enjoy volunteering my time with children in a variety of ways: at my children’s school, at church, as a tutor with struggling readers and as a Ready to Read volunteer (last year, in Ms. Munson’s PEEP classroom @ Parkwood-Upjohn).
Too many children have little or no experience “losing themselves” in a great book and that’s why I became involved with Ready to Read. Children who are not read to, or reading, on a daily basis are missing out on the greatest escape there is!
