Workshop for Parents and Caregivers

Partners in Reading is a workshop for parents and caregivers about the importance of sharing books with children. Workshops are conducted by Kalamazoo Public Library’s children’s librarians, either at the library (including a tour), or off-site for convenience of participants.

Partners in Reading workshop participants learn:

  • Parents are a child’s first and most important teacher
  • The importance of reading to children of all ages
  • Types of books that are appropriate for different ages
  • Talking and singing to young children contributes to language development and pre-reading skills

Resources

Parents are shown a display of books and informed of the resources available to them through the library, including parenting materials and children’s books. They are also taught easy enrichment activities to do at home with young children. Workshop participants receive a gift book for each one their children.

Partners in Reading workshops are free of charge and available to any group of parents. To learn more about this opportunity, please contact Ready to Read.
