Reading Together Author
“My talk covers some personal history --- how and why I came to write The Submission; some of the research and process involved in the writing, and some of the themes I was interested in developing (trust; how we read and interpret art or symbols; how private histories shape history itself; the challenges of writing "alternative history," using the controversy around the "Ground Zero" mosque as a case study; and the more abstract question of whether a novel about a memorial is also in some ways a memorial itself.”
