Reading Together events

The community Reading Together program runs through April, with book discussions, workshops and film series related to the book "The Color of Water:" A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother," by James Mc Bride. The following is a list of Reading Together events for the coming week, including several featuring McBride himself. Book discussion -- Brown-bag lunch book discussion led by James Dexheimer and Joseph Reish, 11:30 a.m. Monday, lower level, Waldo Library, WMU.

Book discussion -- 1 p.m. Wednesday, Comstock Township Library, 6130 King Highway. 345-0136.

Book signing and reception: James McBride -- 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Kalamazoo Public Library, 315 S. Rose St. Free. 553-7913.

Author talk: James McBride -- Author will discuss his life as an author, journalist, composer and jazz musician, 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, Fresh Fire African Methodist Church, 302 Academy St. This is a free, but ticketed events. All tickets have been distributed. 553-7913.

Reading: James McBride -- 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Portage District Library, 300 Library Lane. Free. 329-4542, ext. 600.

James McBride in concert -- McBride and his band conclude his visit to Kalamazoo with a jazz performance, 7 p.m. Thursday, First Baptist Church, 315 W. Michigan Ave. Free, but tickets required for admission. All available tickets have been distributed. 553-7913.

Book discussion -- 1 p.m. Friday, Unitarian Universalist Community Church, 10441 Shaver Road. 324-7262.
