Free One-Day Vehicle Permit
Back for a fourth summer, the DNR and the Library of Michigan have teamed up once again to offer their popular Park & Read, which allows Kalamazoo Public Library resident cardholders to “check-out” a free one-day pass that waives the Recreation Passport entry fee into any of Michigan’s 101 state parks and recreation areas this summer.
The one-day pass, a $10 savings, also provides free, one-time access to any of the more than 500 events scheduled to take place within the state parks throughout the summer.
Passes are valid for seven days from checkout and are good for day use only.
Museums or Historic Sites
The Park & Read pass is also valid at any of the 11 museums or historic sites within the Michigan Historical Museum system. These engaging places focus on themes in Michigan history, so why not learn about Michigan's fascinating history through your local library and then live it by visiting one of our great museums or historic sites?
Free Hammock
Many participating parks will offer a free hammock to use during your time in the park, allowing you to fully enjoy a great book in Michigan’s great outdoors.
A joint venture of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Macy's, The Hammock Company, and the Library of Michigan.
