More than 11 million viewers watched How The Grinch Stole Christmas this season. The animated special based on the Dr. Seuss classic is fun to watch. And the voice of Thurl Ravenscroft, the uncredited singer of “You’re a Mean One Mister Grinch”, is more memorable than Boris Karloff’s narration. But how many of the kids who watched the Grinch for the first time had heard the Dr. Seuss story before? I’m thinking that kids who love the screen version find more to relate to if they’ve read the book before – or had it read to them. The Tale of Desperaux movie adaptation opens today. It will be interesting to hear if any Global Reading Challenge readers (and others) say, “I liked the book better”. Either way, there are tons of great books and video materials at KPL. In fact, after catching a bit of Drama High: The Making Of A High School Musical I’m revisiting The Wiz this weekend.
