Kalamazoo: Then and Now


 Kalamazoo Beet Sugar Company, Parchment, MI, 1902

 

The Kalamazoo Beet Sugar Company was organized and constructed this factory between 1898 and 1899 following a meeting of local farmers and investors interested in the process of obtaining sugar from beets.

The Kalamazoo Beet Sugar Company folded in 1909, and the plant became owned by the Kalamazoo Vegetable Parchment Company. Later owned by the Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company, the plant is no longer in operation of any kind today.
