Southwest Michigan Tuberculosis Sanatorium, 2010
Between 1969 and 1990, the sanatorium was occupied by residents of the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital. As the number of residents at KPH facilities began to dwindle towards the 1990s, the decision was made to shut down the northwest unit. The building has remained unoccupied since that time, although plans have been made on several occasions by a variety of local organizations to utilize the space. Today, the building is of particular interest to individuals interested in paranormal activity, motivated by the nature of its past, its location, and abandoned status.
